Why you might be more like a millennial than you think

For generation experts, everyone is categorized into a type: generation X, baby boomers or millennials – each one with a particular set of demands, desires and special brand of crazy – all mapped out by when they were born. There is a particular fascination for millennials, mainly because by 2030, they will make up 75% US work force.

At Egencia, we believe that, when it comes to travel, there is yet another category – but it doesn’t depend on when you were born, we call it the “Expedia Generation.”

The Expedia Generation evolved over the last 20 years, along with the rise of Expedia. Over that time, members of this generation have come to expect technology to make their lives infinitely easier, at home AND at work. They want everything at their fingertips, at the touch of a smartphone button. If this strikes a chord with you, then you must be part of that generation, too – I know I am.

This is apparent in the way we play – Pokémon Go is addictive to baby boomers and millennials; the way we shop – speak to Amazon Echo for anything from a boxed set of Mozart symphonies to the latest virtual reality gear; to the way we connect – Facetime now keeps grandparents in touch with grandkids.

And nowhere is our reliance on technology more true than in the realm of travel. For the last 20 years, our expectations have been set by rapidly changing technology. It started with online booking and now we expect to do everything from our smartphone, from hailing a cab to managing flight disruptions. That’s true for leisure travel, but why shouldn’t it also be true for business travel? Why shouldn’t the technology we use at work be just as good as what we use at home?

At Egencia, we bring business travel to the Expedia Generation. We create easy-to-use online and mobile experiences, thanks to the most innovative technology around. Click here for a demo.
