SYDNEY - November 11 2015 - Business travel, perk or pesky inconvenience? The verdict is in. The first ever Egencia® Global Traveller Survey reveals that Australian business travellers enjoy business travel, in fact they enjoy it a great deal.
According to a survey of over 1000 Australian business travellers by Egencia, the age old office debate can be put (to a very comfortable business hotel) bed, with the survey finding that an almost unanimous 92% of Australian business travellers enjoy business travel and almost 50% enjoy it a great deal. Male or female, Gen Y or Boomer, graduate or CEO, they all welcome the work trip.
And it’s a good thing Aussies enjoy business travel too as they take an average of 5 trips a year and spend on average 13 nights a year away from home in a hotel bed.
So what is it about business travel that Aussies find so enjoyable?
Well it’s not just the fluffy white robes or miniature shampoo bottles of which less than 20% state are the most important amenities they look for when booking a hotel for business.
Having a quiet and comfortable bed to lay on at the end of a hard day of constant meetings can ease the experience, but WIFI connectivity is universally the most important amenity a hotel can provide state 65% of business travellers. And breakfast is still the most important meal of the day for Aussies with over half (53%) listing complimentary breakfast as the second most important amenity they look for when booking a hotel.

Choosing the right hotel and the amenities offered can contribute to the overall experience, but the number one reason given for a positive attitude toward business travel is that it affords individuals the ability to see new places, meet new people and experience the local culture. It appears the pursuit of travel for the individual resonates with the individual irrespective of purpose – be it for business or pleasure.

This study was conducted on behalf of Egencia by Northstar, a globally integrated strategic insights consulting firm. The study was conducted among 8,030 business travellers aged 18 and older in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States. Surveys were completed online from June 26 to July 15, 2015 using the Kantar-owned GMI (Global Market Insite) and Lightspeed Research amalgamated group of panels. Assuming a probability sample, the margin of error would be +/-1.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
